The HSE (Health & Safety Executive) Are carrying out Site Inspections Now! Are you compliant?

On the 27th of September 2022, the HSE advised they would be conducting 1,000 site inspections across October & November specifically focusing on moving and handling materials. The full link to the article is here.

Why? Because more and more construction workers experience aches, pains and back pain that can cause short-term loss of earnings and long-term injury.

This brings up the big question, is your site compliant? Are all your staff on-site qualified to undertake their tasks in a safe manner? If just one person onsite has an out-of-date ticket or certification it could compromise project timescales and raise the risk of project delays and we all know – time is money! But not only this, it’s a serious issue that workers' long-term health and well-being can be at risk due to carrying out their work in a less safe manner than advised.

So, the question is, can you run the risk?

As an employer, you have a duty of care to protect your staff. So, how can this be done as quickly and efficiently as possible?

Here at Bright Thinking Online, we offer online Health & Safety courses which can be completed in the comfort of your own home. Upon completion and passing of the course, it will generate an immediate digital certificate.

Our low-cost, video-based courses offer another route to staying compliant. Specifically, our manual handling course is accredited by IOSH, IIRSM, CPD and is only 75 minutes long. At the end of the course, they’ll be a short test where the pass rate required varies from 70-75%. The modules include:

2. Manual Handling Regulations

3. Safe Handling

4. Learning Safe Handling Habits

Full details of the course and modules can be found here.

The video-style course is a great way of keeping viewers engaged and is known to be easier to digest with bite-sized information explained via scenario-based videos to keep the user engaged and allow them to think back to the video-based scenarios when it comes to the test. This is great for employees that don’t bode well doing the older style reading and writing tests. A short introductory video of what the course looks and feels like can be found here.

We even offer a free trial so that you can try it before you buy.

It is essential that both employers and workers know the risks and responsibilities, that they face on construction sites. The plan behind the latest announcement is to use the right control measures to prevent injury, full details and guidance for employers can be found on the HSE website or through Work Right here.
